Consider your background

What is excluded from your nature photographs is just as important as what you are featuring in the photo. Before you take you shot take a moment to look past your subject and look for items that may be distracting in your photograph. A messy, cluttered or distracting backdrop will draw the the attention away from the subject matter in the photograph. If you select a large aperture when taking your shot it will help isolate your subject by throwing the background softly out of focus. The larger the aperture the blurrier your background will be depending on the distance between your camera and the distracting elements of the background.
