Nature Photography Tips with Ray Scott: Using Shallow Depth Of Field

In this flower photography tutorial nature photographer Ray Scott uses a wide aperture to create large areas of the photograph that are out of focus to help isolate the flower bloom. This effect can create beautiful and inspiring nature photographs. The areas not in focus (the foreground and background can be used to frame a flower bloom for a more “bugs eye” view.

Using a shallow DOF can bring out the delicate quality that most flowers possess thus highlighting one of the greatest qualities that floral …flowers have.
