The Maternity Photo Shoot Turned To Labor…OOPSIE

So for weeks my daughter and I waited for her maternity dress to arrive from the company she purchased it from through Wish. We planned the shoot around the gorgeous blooming spring trees like the dogwoods and Weeping Cherry trees since she was having a girl, we were hoping to get a full scene of pink hues. We were really getting down to the wire and missed the early spring bloom so we decide to order another dress from a company on Amazon (a US based company). We received it but then the shoot was put on hold once again for the monsoon of rain that we’re experiencing on the east coast for the past week or so.

We final caught a break in the weather this past Sunday! So we quickly did her hair and make-up and shot over to the park hoping the location we settled on wasn’t too badly damaged with the wicked rain and winds that were occurring in our area…it was both stressful and exciting at the same time getting over there. My daughter due day was drawing near and we were running out of time; with my schedule the photo shoot had to take place on Sunday otherwise it might not happen.

We picked Bellevue State park because of the beautiful horseshoe shaped flower garden that was laid out beautifully in front of the historic mansion. And it was a flat short distance from the parking lot so she wouldn’t have to walk too far. I packed lightly using only 2 reflectors and the natural light that way if the rains stated again it was quick to clean up. Who knew that 15 minutes into the photo shoot her water would break and we’d be backing up to head to the hospital…wasn’t quite the water I was planning for lol… Baby Rilynn was ready to go.

For me as a photographer this was my first Maternity photo shoot and was a great learning experience. For me as a new grand mom ( AKA Mimi) it was a true blessing to experience the day and the delivery with them both. This photo shoot I believe will be my most memorable and hilarious of them all for me….I wish I had our reactions on video; I’m told both of our faces were priceless.

World…Meet my first grandchild Rilynn Alanna Witz, 7lbs 11ozs and 21″ of sheer stubbornness and determination just like her mommy and Mimi.

awe so cute, Congrats to mama and Mimi. I am known as the baby whisperer, out of 10 or more shoots I have set up, only 2 have actually been finished, with most moms going into labour on the day of the shoot. In fact I am not attempting many in over a year, my last one the Mum to be had been in hair and makeup and then her water broke, never managed in pics. lovely pics too

Oh wow! I normally do nature and landscape photography so this was definitely a new experience for me. I didn’t realize that many woman had shoots that close to their due dates.
