In February of 2019 during a seminar at Sourcing at Magic in Las Vegas, the VP of Pantone Color Institute, Laurie Pressman, revealed the 2020 color trend forecast and why the ocean will be the inspiration again. “It’s a time of rapid change”
She went on to discuss how choosing the ocean as their inspiration for spring 2020’s color palette is about “inclusivity and fluidity. Glidden Paint’s 2020 Color of the Year
PPG / Glidden Paint announced the other day that the color of the year for 2020 is a “Blend of cobalt and moody, ink blue that offers escapism”…yeah I’m all about being moody, and wanting to escape for some relaxation. In a fast paced techno world this color is a welcome contrast that will provide you with a sense of calm serenity and lift your spirits on a daily basis. The reasoning makes total sense: it’s to combat the nonstop restlessness that we feel in the fast-paced, technology-driven world we live in.
“The faster technology moves and the more convenience it offers, the more we seek activities, experiences and lifestyles that impart slowness and realness into our lives. The need for simplicity and escapism from technology is, in part, the reason that consumers are craving blues like Chinese Porcelain that bring us closer to natural elements such as the sea and sky – creating serenity in any space.”Dee Schlotter,
Senior color manager, PPG paint brand
